Your Opinions Needed

Okay I need your opinion. I'm just about done with the Reverse Halter from Doublestitch that I'm making for my cousin and I've come to a crossroads. You see, my cousin wanted the sweater in orange. I figured burnt orange would be more flattering for her so I knit the bodice in Vanna's Choice yarn in Rust. Unfortunately the pattern calls for the use of Patons Pooch for the bottom area and I decided that since the Pooch didn't come in a comparable color to the Rust that I would use a nice neutral color like Fleece to give her that Bohemian look she tends to like.

Here's my problem. I don't like it! I think the color contrast is too stark. Originally when I was at the store buying the yarn I had resigned myself to just knit it in creme like the picture but I couldn't find any creme yarns that seemed to match. The Patons Pooch is a very yellowy-cream wherein the other yarns were really dull and flat.

So what should I do? Do I keep crocheting to the end with what I've got or should I scrap it all together? I'm leaning towards finishing it because I won't be the one wearing it and it's not hideous, just not MY style. Even though I'll know this I may still be slightly offended if it never sees the light of day.

I like the color combination and think it would be perfect with cream or black pants. I vote for you to finish it.

If there was a way to finish it with the yarn that the bodice is made from that would be my first choice. If not then I would complete it with the color combo you have now.

Its coming along nicely, but I would finish it in the same color as the bodice. Then again its what your cousin wants.

I also vote for finishing it in the yarn you used for the body. Or find another suitable substitution. If not, then finish it up (No frogging! Too much work and it's not bad).

I don't like it. You can rip that back easy. I'd suggest trying to do that fancy trim with a red or brown. Something that blends. I'm sure your cousin doesn't want to go around looking like a super hero.

I just brought home my yarn for OZ today. I can't wait to get started, but the biggest needles I have are 10 1/2 and the store I went to only had 11's for $21, dollars. Short delay. I didn't choose green but I'm very excited about what I did choose.

i'm not feeling the contrast either... go with the same color as the bodice or find something closer in color.

and thats a nice top!

I'm with you...don't care for the stark contrast. It'll probably be nicer if you finish with the same yarn, perhaps add some wood beads for interest. Absolutely no froggin' the top is great so far!

Is there another brand of yarn that's the same texture, that sells a color that is complementary?

I think the contrast is too sharp too, and if you are not feelin' it I wouldn't trudge thru the end just to say it is finished. You want to do and give something you and that person would like!

First of all, let me say that you have done a great job on this pattern. I agree with you about the stark contrast. I personally think the Patons Pooch yarn in Shearling would really pick up the rust color and add a beautiful contrast as well. I've done it before and it was lovely.
